The first three years of your child’s life are essential to maintaining good oral health throughout childhood. Establishing a Dental Home allows parents and pediatric dentists to work together to provide excellent oral health care for children.

HEALTH HISTORY

You should bring your infant in as early as six months old, but definitely before their first birthday. At your first visit, your dentist will review your child’s health and dental history. They will also want to know about the dental health history of mom, dad, and older siblings.

ORAL EXAM

Your dentist will then complete a comprehensive oral examination and a risk assessment for cavities. They will also apply topical fluoride to your baby’s teeth as a preventive measure.

HOME CARE

Your dentist will teach you about best practices in oral hygiene to give you all the tools you need to keep your kids’ smiles healthy. You and your dentist will establish a schedule for routine checks for your child.
